Meet Disha — Free AI Study Guide for Students in Telugu

5 July 20257 min readTeam Kratvix

Disha is a free AI study guide for students in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It answers questions, explains concepts, and helps with board exam preparation — in Telugu.

A Study Guide That Speaks Telugu

Most AI tools available to students in India today have the same problem: they work well in English and poorly (or not at all) in Indian languages.

For a Class 9 student in Nellore studying in Telugu medium, asking an AI tool "పరిణామశీలత అంటే ఏమిటి?" (What is evolution?) and getting a response only in English is worse than no answer. It creates a gap between technology and the student it's supposed to help.

Disha is built to close that gap.

What Is Disha?

Disha is the AI study guide built into Kratvix — free for every student on the platform, regardless of whether their school is a government school or a private institution.

The name means direction in Sanskrit. That's what Disha does: when a student is stuck, it points them in the right direction. It doesn't do their homework. It helps them understand.

Disha can:

  • Answer questions about any subject in the AP and Telangana school curriculum
  • Explain concepts in both Telugu and English
  • Break down complex topics into simpler steps
  • Help with exam preparation by generating practice questions
  • Point students to related topics they might be confused about

Why Telugu Matters

Andhra Pradesh has over 4.5 crore Telugu speakers. The majority of government school students in the state — and a significant portion of private school students — study in Telugu medium.

Yet the entire AI tools ecosystem is built around English. ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and most other AI tools produce mediocre results in Telugu. They transliterate poorly, handle Telugu grammar inconsistently, and often switch to English mid-response.

Disha is designed specifically for Telugu-speaking students. The responses are written in clean, readable Telugu. The subject-specific terminology follows AP Board conventions — so when a student asks about "బీజగణితం" (algebra) in their Class 8 textbook vocabulary, Disha understands the context.

Telugu and English are both first-class in Disha. Students can switch between languages within the same conversation.

What Subjects Does Disha Cover?

Disha covers the full AP and Telangana school curriculum from Class 6 through Class 12:

Sciences: Physics, Chemistry, Biology — aligned with AP SSC and Intermediate syllabi

Mathematics: From fractions and algebra to calculus and statistics. Step-by-step explanations, not just answers.

Social Studies: History, Geography, Civics — with context relevant to AP and Telangana, not just generic NCERT content

Telugu: Language comprehension, grammar, essay writing support

English: Reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary — at appropriate difficulty levels

Intermediate (11th and 12th): MPC, BiPC, and MEC combinations, covering the specific AP Intermediate board curriculum

How Students in AP Use Disha

Here's what a typical interaction looks like for a student in Vijayawada preparing for SSC exams:

A student asks: "జీవకణం యొక్క నిర్మాణాన్ని వివరించండి" (Explain the structure of a living cell)

Disha responds with a structured Telugu explanation covering cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, and organelles — using the exact terminology from the AP Biology textbook, with a note on which parts are most commonly asked in SSC board exams.

The student can then ask follow-up questions: "మైటోకాండ్రియా పని ఏమిటి?" (What does mitochondria do?) and the conversation continues naturally.

This is different from searching Google or watching YouTube. The interaction is responsive to the student's specific question, their level, and the curriculum they're following.

Board Exam Preparation

Disha is particularly useful in the months before board exams. Students in Tirupati, Kurnool, and Hyderabad preparing for AP SSC and Intermediate can use Disha for:

Important questions: "ఈ chapter లో most important questions ఏమిటి?" — Disha identifies the high-weightage topics from previous AP board exam patterns.

Model answers: Students can write a draft answer and ask Disha to evaluate it against SSC or Intermediate marking standards.

Concept revision: Quick explanations of key concepts before the exam.

Practice problems: For Maths and Sciences, Disha generates similar practice problems at the right difficulty level.

Privacy and Safety

Student safety is taken seriously in Disha's design.

All conversations are private — not shared with teachers, parents, or other students unless the student chooses to share them. Student data is never sold to advertisers or third parties. This is a commitment in Kratvix's core values.

Disha is designed to be age-appropriate. It doesn't engage with off-topic or inappropriate requests. It stays focused on learning.

Disha Is Free — No Exceptions

Every student enrolled at a Kratvix school gets Disha at no cost. This applies equally to:

  • Students at private schools paying a full subscription
  • Students at government schools who pay nothing
  • Students in Telugu medium and English medium schools

There is no "premium Disha" that students need to pay for. The full AI guide is included.

How to Access Disha

Disha is available through the Kratvix student platform, accessible on any Android or iOS device and through a web browser. There's no separate app to download.

If your school is on Kratvix, you already have Disha. If your school is not yet on Kratvix, your principal can register the school — it's free for government schools and currently being piloted with first schools across AP.

For a student sitting in Nellore or Vijayawada with a question at 10 PM the night before an exam, Disha is there. That's what it's built for.

Every student in Andhra Pradesh deserves access to quality study support. Disha is our way of making that possible — in the language students actually think in, on the curriculum they're actually studying.
